It doesn't matter which distance you choose from Sprint to Ironman, you'll spend the majority of your race time on the bike. In fact, the longer the distance, the greater the proportion of the time you'll be pedalling. For serial non-bikers there are Aquathlons, but for the rest of us biking represents the safest way to build base fitness (and the easiest outlet four any gear-head tendancies). Your bike doesn't have to be expensive but it's vital it fits properly. Two good sources of fitting information are slowtwitch and cyclingnews, though their resident experts differ on the details- do your research and get comfy! In the mean time, find out more about:
The Sunday Ride: Great training rides in good company
Time Trialling: Quality intensive training
As from Thursday 8th May 2008 Sun City will be holding a TT on the Follingsby Lane circuit. This is a two lap circuit, each lap being 6 miles.
This is an ideal session for all abilities as more experienced riders can ride the full 2 lap 12ml course, while novices can get an introduction to Time Trialling and start by completing only 1 lap if they feel their fitness levels arn't yet up to completing the full course.
Entry to the TT will be free for Sun City Members and £1 for non members.
We hope, in the future to have a permanent time keeper, but the 1st session or two may have to be self timed. If any members have a non-competing friend or family member who would like to get involved and could take on time keeping duties then please make yourself known to one of the club coaches.
Directions to Follingsby Lane will be available soon by a map. Untill then Follingsby Lane is the country road linking the A1290 (Nissan Rd) and the A195 Northumberland way. The meeting point is at the end nearest to the A195. Follingsby Lane is also signposted as the location for the AAA Dog Kennels.
