Durham Duathlon 2007

The 2nd race of the North East Regional Duathlon Series saw a strong contingent from Sun City Tri.  The 10.00 start was eagerly awaited by Elliot, Jeff, Clive, Gordon, Rob & Andy as they gathered on the start line under clear blue skies, sunshine and virtually no wind.

This Duathlon was a 5km run consisting of 3 laps with a short but steep hill just to get the legs working followed by a one lap 25km bike section which was fairly flat until riders met the “hill.” The “hill” was a 1 mile incline to get both the lungs and legs working, this was followed by some very long sweeping down hill sections, a welcome sight!. Then a 5km run over 3 laps.

Back into transition for the 2nd run of the day. At this point you realise the benefit of a brick session (a bike & run combination), if only I’d done more was the thought going through competitors mind as their legs turned to Jelly and the sensation of running on ball bearings was apparent. Into the 3 laps of the second run and your legs were working hard after the “jelly legs” disappeared every one was chasing a fast time.

A sterling effort by all from Sun City Tri with some very respectable times which resulted in Sun City taking a maximum 10 points in the team event, with Sun City in pole position and everything to race for at the last race of the North East Regional Duathlon Series in Hamsterley Forest.
