Swim sessions

Sun City Tri training off Roker, Honest!!

Sun City swimming sessions will be taking place at Boldon Community Centre (on the Boldon Comprehensive School site). There are three sessions per week and they're in different pools at the centre:

Training Sessions

  • Tuesday 8-9pm (25m pool)

This session is for members only, and is focussed on swim fitness. It is required that you be able to swim 200m without stopping. Any potential members are still welcome to come along and have a chat and join in.

The Thursday session is split into two sessions, and focusses more on swim technique:

  • Thursday 7-8pm (20m pool)

Has 2 junior lanes, and one each of slow, medium and fast.

  • Thursday 8-9pm (20m pool)

Has 2 novice lanes, and one each of slow medium and fast

  • Saturday 10-12am

This session is open for all

Try and be changed and on poolside 5 minutes before the session start so the coaches can explain the session and you can maximise your swim time

Swimming Fees

Fees are either £18 per month for access to all the sessions or £2.50 if you prefer to pay per session (£2.00 for juniors). If you choose to swim for two hours on a Thursday, it's £3.00. You also have to be a member of Boldon Community Association- the £5 fee is included in your Sun City Membership. Your first swimming session is still free so come along and say hello!

For non-members the fees are as follows:

  • 1 hour session: £3.50
  • Greater than 1 hour: £4.50
  • Juniors (1 hour): £2.50

Video Analysis

The club now have a Sharkeye Coach underwater camera and monitor for video analysis of swim strokes. Seeing yourself swim for the first time can be a bit of a shock, but it has massive benefits for your swimming development! We'll be running regular video sessions to help our members get the most out of their time in the pool- just speak to one of the coaches if you're interested and be sure to smile if the camera's at the pool...

Open Water Swimming

There are potential open water swim venues at Seaburn or at Hetton Lyons Country Park during the spring/summer months. Swimming there can be a good way for novices to gain experience in open water, and for more experienced open water swimmers to practice race tactics, sighting etc. You can ask around at the pool or use the soapbox feature on this site to see if anyone's going in. In the summer months, during the day, there are lifeguards on duty at Seaburn and it's best practice to swim with at least one other person in open water.
