Swim sessions

Sun City Tri training off Roker, Honest!!

Sun City swimming sessions will be taking place at Boldon Community Centre (on the Boldon Comprehensive School site). There are three sessions per week and they're in different pools at the centre:

Tuesdays 8-9pm (in the 25m pool)
Thursdays 7-9pm (in the 20m pool)
Saturday 10-12am(in the 20m pool)

Try and be changed and on poolside 5 minutes before the session start so the coaches can explain the session and you can maximise your swim time

The Tuesday session has a focus on improving your swim fitness, with a coach on hand to offer advice and explain the session.
The first hour on Thursday will focus more on junior athletes and swimming development. The second hour of the Thursday session will be similar to Tuesdays. The assumption is that most members will only attend for one hour on Thursdays but we'll try and have at least one lane available for "long swims" of up to 2 hours, for members with long distance race goals. If you're new to the club or want to find out more, feel free to come along to whichever session suits you and speak to one of the coaches.

Swimming Fees

Fees are either £18 per month for access to all the sessions or £2.50 if you prefer to pay per session (£2.00 for juniors). If you choose to swim for two hours on a Thursday, it's £3.00. You also have to be a member of Boldon Community Association- the £5 fee is included in your Sun City Membership. Your first swimming session is still free so come along and say hello!

For non-members the fees are as follows:

  • 1 hour session: £3.50
  • Greater than 1 hour: £4.50
  • Juniors (1 hour): £2.50

Video Analysis

The club now have a Sharkeye Coach underwater camera and monitor for video analysis of swim strokes. Seeing yourself swim for the first time can be a bit of a shock, but it has massive benefits for your swimming development! We'll be running regular video sessions to help our members get the most out of their time in the pool- just speak to one of the coaches if you're interested and be sure to smile if the camera's at the pool...

Open Water Swimming

There are potential open water swim venues at Seaburn or at Hetton Lyons Country Park during the spring/summer months. Swimming there can be a good way for novices to gain experience in open water, and for more experienced open water swimmers to practice race tactics, sighting etc. You can ask around at the pool or use the soapbox feature on this site to see if anyone's going in. In the summer months, during the day, there are lifeguards on duty at Seaburn and it's best practice to swim with at least one other person in open water.
